HAL Names Versteeg Director of Compliance Programs

Holland America Line announced that Michiel Versteeg is its new director of compliance programs. Versteeg will report to Rene Roussel, vice president-nautical and compliance.

In his new role, Versteeg will lead the development and implementation of the line’s federal and international compliance programs, including internal audits and investigations for fleet operations, technical and environmental areas. He also will oversee public health compliance requirements.

Versteeg began his career with Holland America Line in 1993 as a fleet cadet. In 1999, he transferred to the shore-based position of human resources manager for nautical and technical operations. He was named manager of compliance programs in 2000. In 2006, Versteeg was promoted to deputy director of compliance programs to supervise development of the line’s safety management system, officer and crew communications, retention and other internal programs. Versteeg is a recent graduate of University of Washington Business School’s Executive Development Program.
