A year or two back I had the opportunity to visit
Cartegena, Colombia and was very impressed with this little piece of
colonial Spain nestling behind the impressive fortified walls of
what is also a modern small city. The Old Town, as it is
locally known, is one of the most impressive vestiges of colonial
Spain in central America if not in the entire New World.
It is hard to describe the Old Town in a few words
but suffice to say it is more than well worth the visit.
Several cruise lines now make this a port of call
and there is even talk of RCI home-porting a ship in the magnificent
bay that serves as the harbor of Cartegena.
Check out our web-site for more images etc. and
the following link to an article on
Cartegena which also has links to other destinations in Colombia
as well as an amazing
hotel for your visit.
In the past the political situation in Columbia
was a concern but in recent years the government has really managed
to not only contain the security situation but has turned it around.
Yes, there is visible high security with armed policy and military
doing checks and so on, but as a tourist you will probably not come
into contact with this. My advice - do not let this put you
off visiting one of the Worlds top destination and World Heritage
Site. |
