Anacoluthe - Itinerary

SATURDAY

We meet in the lobby of Hotel Regina, 192, Rue de Rivoli, Paris 75001 (Telephone 01 42 60 31 10) at 3pm. (1500).  Transfer by motor coach to Pontoise on the river Oise, north of Paris.  Champagne welcome aboard and afterwards you are shown to your cabin with time to unpack before dinner this evening at 7.30 where all crew members are presented and you have your first opportunity to meet your fellow passengers.

SUNDAY

After breakfast, we visit Giverny and the house and gardens of Claude Monet, one of the most renown  of the Impressionist painters.  Here lies the inspiration for his masterpiece, Water Lillies.  The French Government spends more than $2 Million each year in replacing and caring for the 10’s of thousands of flowers that populate this property. We return to Anacoluthe in time for lunch and cruise this afternoon to Bougival, a delightful residential town on the river Seine made famous by the Impressionists Painters of the 1870’s.

MONDAY

This morning, we visit Auvers sur Oise where Vincent Van Gogh lived and painted along with many other painters of the Impressionist period.  We can visit the Auberge Ravoux, the chateau,  and explore this enchanting village with so many references to one of the most important artistic periods in art history.  We return to Bougival and cast off as we begin lunch.  Then we  cruise into Paris this afternoon and moor near the Eiffel Tower.  What a site!!   This evening is an unforgettable  cruise through the heart of Illuminated Paris, “The City of Light.”  Paris at night is magnificent.

TUESDAY

After Breakfast, we tour  Paris by motor coach.  Our guide points out  all the memorable monuments of the city.  We rejoin Anacoluthe in Evry, south of Paris and continue to cruise to the city of Melun.

WEDNESDAY

This morning, we  take a short drive to visit the Chateau Vaux le Vicomte, the model for Versailles. This magnificent chateau was built by Fouquet, the finance minister of the Sun King.  Exceptionally well furnished interior and magnificent gardens make this a truly memorable visit.  We return to Anacoluthe and cruise to Montereau, where the river Yonne joins the Seine

THURSDAY

Today we have a morning cruise through some pastoral scenery, passing through many small towns and villages to Sens, a delightful city on the banks of the river Yonne.  After lunch, we drive to Chablis where there is a private wine tasting of several vintages of this famous white wine.  Chablis is considered by many one of the finest white wines in the world. We return to Sens and this evening will enjoy our Gala dinner on board.

FRIDAY

This morning, after breakfast, we drive back to Paris, Hotel Regina, arriving around lunchtime

Note: This is a sample itinerary: it is subject to modification in the case of unforeseen circumstances such as canal closures and navigation problems. The boat cruises in the opposite direction on alternate weeks.  At Canal & Co we are constantly developing our programmes and we may modify our overnight stops and excursions in order to assure a consistently high standard of moorings and visits.
