Seven Days / Six Nights
The charming Litote is custom-built to
pass under the low bridges of the Burgundy Canal through this land
of endlessly-enchanting vistas. In Vandenesse you'll witness
Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, a fortress reminiscent of the past and
virtually unchanged today.
You'll
journey to Dijon, once the seat of the powerful Dukes of Burgundy
and home to France's epicurean delights. Along the way, you'll enjoy
many opportunities for walking and biking along the towpaths, wine
tastings and châteaux sightseeing along France's most attractive
waterways.

DAY 1
|
SATURDAY
Passengers who have taken our Optional Paris Transfer meet in the
lobby of the Hotel Regina 192 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris (telephone
01 42 60 31 10) at 11.30 a.m. (1130) and transfer to the Gare de
Lyon for the TGV high speed train to Dijon in 1st class seating. The
Litote air conditioned motor coach is waiting to transfer you to the
Litote, moored in the Village of Vandenesse en Auxois. You are
welcomed aboard with champagne, presentation of the crew and a late
afternoon cruise to the hamlet of La Repe. |
DAY 2
|
SUNDAY
Morning we have an excursion to the elegant 15c Chateau de Commarin.
Still privately owned, the chateau is notable for its beautiful
furnishings and a unique collection of Renaissance heraldic
tapestries. Afterwards we pay a visit to the medieval village of
Chateauneuf en Auxois before returning to Litote for lunch. This
afternoon we cruise along the Burgundy canal to the village of Pont
d’Ouche for overnight mooring. There is pleasant walking and cycling
along the towpath. |
| DAY 3 |
MONDAY
After breakfast, we drive over the hills of the Ouche valley to the
famous wine producing town of Mersault. A visit to a private cellar
has been arranged, with wine tasting and a chance to sample some of
the most prestigious wines of this area. We return to Litote in time
for a delicious lunch and then begin cruising through one of the
most attractive stretches of the Burgundy canal to La Bussiere. We
moor a short distance from the abbey which is well worth a visit. |
| DAY 4 |
TUESDAY
This morning is market day in Dijon, capital of Burgundy and after a
guided visit of the historical center, there is time to stroll
through the picturesque covered market, the largest in Burgundy. We
return to Litote and cruise to the village of Gissey sur Ouche. |
| DAY 5 |
WEDNESDAY
A morning cruise, passing through some delightful villages with lots
of opportunities to walk or cycle along the towpaths brings us to
Pont de Pany. After lunch, an excursion to Beaune, the wine capital
of Burgundy and also home to the fabulous 15c Hospice and its
splendid glazed tile roof, the finest example of Burgundian/Flemish
architecture in existence. We return to Litote moored in Fleurey sur
Ouche. |
| DAY 6 |
THURSDAY
This morning we cruise through the small towns of Velars and
Plombieres, passing alongside lake Kir before arriving into the port
of Dijon, close to the heart of the city. This afternoon, an
excursion to Clos de Vougeot where wine was being produced as early
as the 12c, followed by a private wine tasting. We return to Dijon
and this evening is our farewell Gala Dinner on board. |
| DAY 7 |
FRIDAY
After breakfast, transfer to the railroad station for the TGV train
back to Paris. |
