Alouette was built in 1908 at Ouderkeek in the Netherlands. Whilst used as a cargo barge, she was first named ‘Cura’ and, later, ‘Mars’. In 1986 - 1987, she was converted into a luxurious passenger-carrying barge and was re-named Alouette. In an extremely exciting re-launch, Alouette was gutted and rebuilt in 2008 and is now rated is Ultra-Deluxe. Alouette is a Luxemotor type of barge and is 30,48 metres in length and 4,85 metres beam, one of the few barges that can navigate the Canal du Midi.

Accommodation
In 2008 Alouette was gutted and completely rebuilt to be Ultra-Deluxe. The Owners kept the elegant and classic lines of the exterior. However, the interior was re-configured from three cabins to two - and was upgraded with "French country style" design scheme augmented by amenities expected by the upscale traveler. The big and beautiful staterooms are outfitted with satellite TV, DVD, a phone itercom system - while the decor reeks of luxury - Italian Linens dress the beds. Hand-cut tiles line the bath. In the Salon is Grange furniture and solid oak floors. Like in the cabins, the "look" is light, colorful, airy. A computer with unlimited internet access connects this lovely cocoon to the outside world.

Alouette - Cruising Outline

The Canal du Midi was built in the 17th century and was an engineering marvel for its time. Highlights of this area include Carcasonne, the most complete medieval, fortified city existing. During the summer season the Alouette cruises between Béziers - Carcassone or Carcasonne and Toulouse. In the early autumn the Alouette will retrace her steps through the Midi, the Rhône and Saône, returning home to Burgundy and the Franche-Comté to finish the season. (Cruising map / Itineraries)
