The m.v. Mare Australis was launched in 2002 and her sistership the m.v. Via Australis in 2005. The ships were designed specifically for the weather in the Cape Horn area. They are attractive yet solidly built modern small ships. Intended and equipped to be expedition cruise ships that sail alternating itineraries through the Straits of Magellan and the Beagle Channel from October to April each year between Chile and Argentina. |

Constructed to Solas 2002 & MARPOL 73/78 and is classified as a Passenger Vessel by ABS (American Bureau of Shipping). The ship was also constructed as a zero discharge vessel with no waste being deposited in the ocean. The ships have 63 staterooms in total, 45 being Cat AA, eight of which have double beds, 12 Cat A staterooms, 2 of which have double beds and 6 Cat B's three of which convert to triples (with an upper berth). The ships have two lounges, the Yamaha and the Sky as well as the Panorama dining room, all have oversize windows to appreciate the breathtaking scenery, on the upper deck there is an open air terrace.
